Pedestrian Struck And Sent To London Hospital

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Saturday March 12, 2016, shortly before 2:30 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the intersection of St. George St. and Ontario Rd. in Mitchell, in response to a pedestrian vs motor vehicle collision.

Investigation revealed that a pickup truck was driving east bound on Ontario Rd approaching the intersection of St. George St. A pedestrian ran north bound from the sidewalk on the south west corner of the intersection, directly into the path of the pickup truck. The pickup truck driver braked and swerved but was unable to avoid contacting the pedestrian. The impact caused the pedestrian to be thrown onto the road surface.

The male pedestrian, a 25-year-old resident of the Municipality of West Perth was transported to a local hospital. He has since been transported by ambulance to a London hospital, where he is being treated for his major but non-life threatening injuries. The 19-year-old male driver of the pickup truck, a Municipality of West Perth resident, did not sustain injuries.

The Perth County OPP is continuing their investigation into this collision.
