Passing Motorists Alert Residents To House Fire

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Smoke coming from a house caught the attention of two passing motorists last Saturday morning on Amberley Road west of Wingham. Around 10:30 a.m. on November 23, 2013 two Good Samaritans observed a farmhouse starting to catch on fire. They immediately stopped and attempted to alert the occupants inside by banging on the doors and windows of the residence.

Three adults were inside the residence at the time; two of them were sleeping. The commotion outside was enough to alert one of the residents. The passer-by motorists then entered the residence and assisted the three occupants to safety.

Huron Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were assisted on scene by Lucknow Fire Department Firefighters. The home sustained smoke and water damage however the structure was saved due to the efforts of the fire personnel on scene. The dollar value of damages has not been established at this point.

The cause of the fire has not been determined however it is not suspicious in nature.
