On Saturday January 28 th , 2017 just prior to 5 am. Owen Sound Police Service was alerted to a suspicious vehicle stopped in the middle of Harrison Park hill on 2 nd Avenue East. A City Works Department employee had observed the vehicle stopped in the southbound lane with the engine running and a male party slumped over in the driver’s seat. The male driver would not respond to knocks at the driver’s window and the vehicle’s doors were locked.
Police arriving on scene had difficulty getting the driver’s attention. The male party appeared very confused and repeatedly revved the vehicle’s engine. Police vehicles blocked the vehicle in so that the driver would not be able to flee the area. The male driver eventually responded to officer’s demands to open the driver’s door. The male driver displayed physical characteristics of being under the influence of a narcotic.
The driver, a 31 year old New Market man, advised officers that he believed he was currently in the town of Durham and had no recollection of how he had arrived at this location. The male was arrested for impaired by drug care and control of a motor vehicle and taken into police custody. A subsequent search of the male party revealed him to be in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine and associated drug paraphernalia.
The male driver will be appearing in court in February to answer to the criminal charges of impaired by drug care and control of a motor vehicle and possession of a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The male driver also faces several Provincial charges in relation to this incident.
