Just before 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon a lone male left Wal-Mart with a 60 inch television in his shopping cart. Staff became suspicious of the male and upon further investigation it was discovered that he had not paid for the television which had a retail value of over $1,200.
Employees were able to obtain a description of the man along with his vehicle and licence plate number. The crime was then reported to the Owen Sound Police. Officers responded to the area and when the vehicle and suspect were not located the search was broadened. An officer checking motels on the eastside of the city observed the vehicle in the parking lot and the suspect moving the large TV into one of the motel units. The 42 year old male originally from the Brampton area was arrested without incident. He will now have to appear in the Owen Sound Court of Justice on April 13 th , 2017 to answer to the charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
A 36 year old female who was found in the company of the accused and two other parties at the motel decided to lie to police with regards to her identity. Officers conducted further investigation which determined her true identity; this resulted in her arrest for obstructing police and for failing to comply with conditions of her recognizance as well as conditions of her probation order, she was found in the company of a male party whom she is not to associate with. This woman has been held in custody for a bail hearing tomorrow morning.
