Owen Sound, Ontario – Thursday, August 18, 2016 – Mayor Ian Boddy, on behalf of Council
and the City of Owen Sound extends condolences to the family of Private Andrew Fitzgerald.

believed that a body found in the Owen Sound harbor is that of Private Fitzgerald.
Mayor Boddy said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Private Fitzgerald’s family and friends. At
a time they should be celebrating his graduation, they are now enduring agony. Our community
offers our support at this tragic time.”
The Mayor continued, “I extend my sincere appreciation to the Owen Sound Police Service, our
inter-township Fire Department, the Ontario Provincial Police, and the Canadian Armed Forces.
In the midst of a devastating situation, they remained professional and compassionate to their
colleague and the Fitzgerald family.”
The Owen Sound Police Service will hold a news conference at 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning.
