Owen Sound Man Risks Lives And Gets Charged

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Saturday, July 4, 2015, at approximately 10:24 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit checked a power boat, with three occupants on board, during their patrols on Georgian Bay. Officers discovered that there were no lifejackets or personal safety devices on board the vessel. Lifejackets were provided to the three individuals and the vessel was escorted back to shore.

The operator of the vessel, Jeffrey GRAHAM, 53, of Owen Sound, was charged with operating a non-human-powered pleasure craft without personal flotation device or life jacket of appropriate size for each person on board under the Canada Shipping Act (CSA).

Grey County OPP remind boaters that wearing a life jacket of PFD significantly increases survivability should a mishap occur. Not wearing this equipment continues to be a contributing factor in the majority of boating fatalities.
