Owen Sound, Ontario – Wednesday, August 26, 2015 – Mayor Ian Boddy and City Manager,
Wayne Ritchie are pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Barfoot as Fire Chief for the
City of Owen Sound effective September 1, 2015.
Prior to his retirement in January 2015, Doug was previously employed for 31 years with Owen
Sound Fire & Emergency Services. He was promoted progressively during his tenure, from the
position of Firefighter to Driver Mechanic, Dive Master, Acting Captain, to Captain.
“I am excited and honored to be stepping into the role of Chief,” Barfoot said. “I look forward to
working closely with all of the Members, Council and the Senior Management Team; and to
further strengthen department operations, while continuing to keep Owen Sound safe for our
residents.”
“Mr. Barfoot knows how Owen Sound Fire & Emergency Services operates, which combined with
over 35 years of firefighting experience along with strong leadership and communication skills
makes him an excellent candidate for the job,” said City Manager Wayne Ritchie.
Mr. Ritchie also thanked outgoing Acting Fire Chief Tom Potter for his many years of outstanding
service with the City.
