(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received 2 reports involving the overpayment scam. On June 1st, 2012 at 5:04 pm from a resident of Huron Kinloss and on May 30th, 2012 at 3:00 pm from a resident of Kincardine. The scam involves a “purchaser†sending more money than the asking price for an item, requesting the difference be returned to them. Typically, the “payment†is no good, but the scammer makes money when the seller returns the difference before discovering they weren’t paid. The South Bruce OPP is reminding all residents to watch out for scams. Defrauding Canadians is a multi billion dollar business that will only stop when the scammers stop making money. You work hard for your money, don’t hand it (or personal information) over to a con artist.
