(Ottawa)—Today, the Ottawa Police Service, OPP and RCMP conducted a city-wide distracted driving enforcement campaign.
So far today, officers have issued 91 tickets for using a Handheld Communication Device, along with 43 other tickets for various Highway Traffic Act offences.
In 2013, 40% of collisions in Ottawa were the result of distracted driving.
“Drivers may be aware of some dangers, like drinking and driving, but they may not realize that other behaviours and distractions also pose a threat to their safety,” said Ottawa Police Traffic Sergeant Denis Hull. “Do not use your phone when driving, even when stopped at traffic lights.”
