(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Food Bank and the Caring and Sharing Exchange were announced as the 2015 Ottawa Police Service Gala charities at the launch of Police Week today at Elgin police station.
“We received applications from a number of deserving charities looking to be this year’s beneficiary,” said Chief Charles Bordeleau. “In the end, we selected not one, but two fantastic local charities making a difference in our community ̶ the Ottawa Food Bank and the Caring and Sharing Exchange.”
“We are so thrilled to have been chosen as a recipient this year,” said Cindy Smith, Executive Director of the Caring and Sharing Exchange. “These funds will allow us to ensure that children in need in the Ottawa community return to school with their heads held high, ready to learn.”
“We’re honoured to be selected as one of the beneficiaries of this year’s prestigious Ottawa Police Gala,” said Michael Maidment, Executive Director of the Ottawa Food Bank. “The generous support received from this event will allow us to provide assistance to the 50,000 people who turn to the Ottawa Food Bank for support each month.”
Since its inception in 2010, the Ottawa Police Gala has raised nearly $500,000 that has been re-invested into the community through charities such as Project S.T.E.P., the Ottawa Mission, the Youth Services Bureau, Christie Lake Kids, and the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa.
“The success of the Gala would not be possible without the contributions of the various sponsors,” said Chief Bordeleau. “They are integral to its success and we thank them for their investment in the community.”
The 2015 Ottawa Police Gala will be held November 7, 2015 at the Shaw Centre. Tickets will go on sale in May so stay tuned!
