OPP & Zero Tolerance On Long Weekend

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) With students out of school and families travelling to vacation destinations, the Canada Day Long Weekend will see much traffic on Perth County roadways.

The Perth County OPP will be utilizing some extra officers in addition to their regularly available long weekend resources. This is done in an effort to enforce traffic laws which is hopefully going to save lives and reduce injuries.

This year Perth County OPP officers have been actively enforcing aggressive driving violations, resulting in the issuing of high numbers of careless driving, speeding, racing and fail to yield citations. They have also concentrated distracted drivers who feel the need to answer that cell phone or send out that text message.

. “We have all been touched by the loss of a number of lives within and around Perth County over the past few weeks, our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends” says Perth County OPP Inspector Steve Porter. “To keep families and the general motoring public safe, I have also instructed my officers to have zero tolerance for aggressive driving on the Canada Day long weekend”. “There will also be numerous R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) programs this weekend throughout the county, because I want motorists to understand that drinking and driving will not be tolerated”.

“My hope is that everyone will have a fun and safe Canada Day Long Weekend”.
