(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is urging motorists to evaluate their travel plans due to the severe weather conditions.
The strong westerly winds are generating snow squalls resulting in poor visibility due to blowing snow. These conditions are making travel difficult and have resulted in many vehicles leaving roadways and entering ditches. Officers are responding to these calls and a number of stranded motorists have been picked up.
Motorists are asked to post pone none-essential trips until conditions improve.
Finally, please DO NOT call the Provincial Communications Centre (PCC) (Dispatch) for road and weather conditions. Police will not provide this information. By calling the PCC it ties up phone lines that others depend on for emergency situations.
Dial 5-1-1 from your landline or cell phone for up to date road information. This bilingual service provides travellers with road information pertaining to construction zones and closures on provincially maintained highways. Alternatively online users can find the same information at www.ontario.ca/trip
Winter driving requires the full attention of every motorist. Proper pre-trip planning and vehicle inspections will make for a much safer trip. Winter driving in Perth County can be challenging, be prepared and be safe.
