OPP Stop Speeding Drunk Driver Before Entering Goderich – Name Released

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 27-year-old male driver from Cambridge is facing several charges following a dangerous driving incident that took place earlier this week.

At approximately 4:07 a.m. on October 26, 2016 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a Ford Super Duty truck speeding through the Village of Bayfield at very high rate of speed. The officer was able to measure the speed of the truck with a RADAR device and the speed was measured to be in excess of 145 km/h. A dangerously fast speed considering the truck was pulling a trailer loaded with golf carts and the speed limit through Bayfield is 60 km/h.

The officer began to follow after the vehicle and watched as the driver continued to drive in the oncoming lane for several kilometers. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver continued northbound toward Goderich. As the vehicle approached the south of end of Goderich two other police vehicles were utilized and the driver finally pulled over just before he entered Goderich.

The driver was placed under arrest for Dangerous Driving and while speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol and was displaying signs that he was impaired by alcohol. Hence the driver was also placed under arrest for Impaired Driving. He was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 27-year-old Brayden HOOPER from Cambridge has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Dangerous Driving and Perform Stunt – Speeding by 50 km/h or more. He was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for December 5, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension, an additional seven day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
