OPP Marine Unit Finds Safety Equipment Violation

(LAKE HURON, ON) On May 26, 2013 at 10:00 am the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) marine unit was patrolling the waters of Lake Huron when a White and Turquoise Cutter was stopped. A safety check was conducted and the vessel was found to be operating without required equipment including buoyant line and a manual pump. The operator, 45 year old Philip DONKERSGOED of Keppel Township, was charged with Operating a vessel without required safety equipment.

The South Bruce OPP reminds all boaters and pleasure craft operators to ensure their vessels are properly equipped each time they leave the dock. The time to discover you don’t have a piece of safety equipment is definitely NOT when you need it out on the water.
