OPP Constable Ellision Catuira- Racing, Police Cruiser Impounded

OFFICER CHARGED – COLLISION

(LONDON, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Traffic Unit have charged a member of the Wellington County OPP with Racing, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators were called in to investigate a collision the officer was involved in while responding to a call in Mt. Forest this morning shortly after 1:00 a.m. The officer was operating a fully marked police cruiser when he failed to negotiate a turn onto Industrial Drive, ran off the roadway and drove into a wooded area. The member was uninjured during the collision; however the cruiser sustained significant damage.

OPP has charged 26-year-old Ellision CATUIRA, with Racing. He has been with the Wellington County OPP for 9 months and holds the rank of Probationary Constable. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences Court on November 21, 2012 to answer to the charge. The member’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 7 days and the cruiser impounded.

The member has been assigned to administrative duties.
