Officers Investigate Numerous Crashes During First Snowfall

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – Southern Bruce County experienced the first taste of winter and the members of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were kept busy responding to motor vehicle collisions.

In a 24 hour period from 12:00 pm on November 13, 2014 until 12:00 pm on November 14, 2014, the South Bruce OPP responded to 15 crashes. 12 were property damage only, 2 were non-life threatening injuries and 1 was a fatal crash.

“It’s frustrating to see this year after year; lives put at risk because drivers don’t adjust their driving during winter months, especially during the first snowfall. I realize that motorists can encounter some brutal conditions in the lee of Lake Huron, but the fact of the matter is roads and weather don’t cause crashes – drivers do. There’s no better defense for winter driving than to adjust your speed before you have a problem. Remember: if you see snow, go slow” – Acting Inspector Wayne Thompson, Detachment Commander, South Bruce OPP.
