Officer Wrecks Cruiser Attempting To Follow Stolen Vehicle Through Field

1 May 2016, 1:23 am Saugeen Shores Police observed a vehicle in Port Elgin that had been reported stolen to the Walkerton OPP. The officer tried to stop the vehicle and it sped away north. The vehicle headed into the field to the north and west of Goderich and Mary St. The cruiser struck a roadway crossing the field causing severe damage to the cruiser. The driver of the stolen vehicle continued and left the area. The officer driving the cruiser was treated for minor injuries.

After police investigated two Saugeen Shores youth (16 and 17 years old) were arrested on the 5th of May 2016.

The 17 year old male has been charged with

-Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle

-Flight while pursued

-Fail to comply with undertaking

-Possession of a prohibited weapon (a prohibited knife)

-Possession of Schedule I substance MDMA

The 16 and 17 year old face joint charges of

-Theft under from a motor vehicle X 3

-Possession of property obtained by crime (stolen vehicle #1)

-Possession of property obtained by crime (stolen vehicle #2)

-Possession of property obtained by crime (stolen vehicle #3)

-Theft of each of the motor vehicles X3

3 May 2016,

Members of the Saugeen Shores police conducted DARE training in each of our elementary schools.

4 May 2016,

9:29 am it was reported to police that two unlocked vehicles were entered in Port Elgin. There was nothing believed to be stolen.

10:10 pm police arrested an intoxicated male who was wandering the Bricker St area.

5 May 2016,

3:46 pm police investigated a report of a pop machine being entered and money stolen from inside, police are investigating.

11:02 pm, police are investigating the report of an assault that occurred in Port Elgin on Elgin St. anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-832-2500.

6 May 2016,

10:13 am police received a report of an unlocked vehicle being entered in Port Elgin. Some change and a multi tool were taken.

7 May 2016,

7:48 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Bruce and Elgin St. This collision involved a hydro pole and live wires down. A vehicle was south on Bruce St at Elgin St. A second vehicle was west on Elgin St and did not stop for the stop sign striking the first vehicle. The south bound Bruce St vehicle then struck a hydro pole. The pole broke and live hydro wires were about the vehicle.

If you find yourself in a similar situation and there is no other danger present please stay in your vehicle. The rubber tires of your vehicle will protect you from electrical shock.

2:49 pm police received a report of a vehicle entered in Southampton but nothing is believed to have been stolen.

10:22 pm police conducted RIDE in Southampton, no infractions.

8 May 2016,

12:33 pm police received a report of a tractor being damaged and some parts stolen including mirrors, no suspects.

This weekend looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend. People will be taking part in water sports including the May 24 River Run. Please ensure you bring your safety equipment including life jackets. Police will be present at areas where people are putting in and pulling out.
