Location: VICTORIA ST N and FREDERICK ST, KITCHENER ON Canada

On November 16, 2016 at 9:35 p.m. a Waterloo Regional Police officer observed a vehicle driving at an excessive rate of speed eastbound along Highway 7/8, heading into Kitchener.

When the black Ford Focus vehicle got to the Bruce Street off ramp, the driver swerved across several lanes of traffic and cut off a motorcycle that was attempting to exit the highway at the same ramp.

As the Focus stopped at the end of the off ramp to turn onto Bruce Street, the police officer pulled in front of the car and got out of his vehicle in an attempt to speak to the driver. As the officer walked up to the vehicle, the driver reversed at a high rate of speed and then drove at the officer.

The officer stepped aside quickly as the vehicle approached but was struck in the left leg, forcing him to spin around. The vehicle sped off, again at an excessive speed. The officer was able to get the license plate number of the Focus and the driver was located a short time later at his home. A 20-year-old Woolwich Township man has been arrested for Dangerous Driving. He has also been charged with numerous Highway Traffic and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act offences. The officer was not injured. Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact police at 519-653-7700 ext. 4420 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
