(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On June 21, 2013 shortly after one in the afternoon Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were assisting with traffic control during a walk on Saugeen First Nation to celebrate National Aboriginal Day.
As the walk came to an end a Bruce Peninsula Officer was told about a house on fire, he quickly entered the burning building to remove the lone occupant. The fire appeared to be in the area of the kitchen stove. The residence was filled with smoke and visibility was low.
The occupant refused medical treatment. The Saugeen First Nation Fire Department arrived and extinguished the blaze.
The Officer was transported to the Wiarton Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. He was treated and released.
Police concluded their investigation, foul play is not suspected.
