Off-duty Ottawa Police Officer charged with Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol

(Ottawa)On November 2, 2013, the Ottawa Police Service responded to a call at approx. 6:00am about a driver possibly driving while under the influence of alcohol. Officers located the vehicle at Terry Fox Drive and Hazeldean Road and arrested the male driver.

Off-duty Constable Ahmad Bayaa of the Ottawa Police Service was charged with Operating a motor vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol/100ml of blood, section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

Constable Bayaa was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ottawa Court on November 18, 2013.

He is currently assigned to administrative duties. The Ottawa Police Service Professional Standards Section has begun an investigation into this matter.

“This matter is before the courts and it is important that we respect due process,” said Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau. “The Ottawa Police Service expects the conduct of all officers to be of the highest standard and reflective of the values of our community.”
