Numerous Elderly Patients Sexually Assaulted By Personal Support Worker – Police Fear More Victims

Investigators working in the #4 District Criminal Investigation Bureau have re-arrested and laid additional charges against a 51-year-old personal support worker in relation to the sexual assault of multiple elderly female patients he cared for at Mackenzie Health hospital in the Town of Richmond Hill and a senior citizen’s apartment complex in the Town of Aurora.

On Wednesday, December 19, 2015, York Regional Police investigators received information from a female victim, who was a patient at Mackenzie Health, regarding a sexual assault that occurred sometime between August and October, 2015. At the time of the offence, the victim was being cared for at Mackenzie Health hospital by the accused.

During the course of the investigation, multiple production orders were served on Mackenzie Health to obtain information about the accused’s identity and the incident that had been reported. As investigators worked through the information received as a result of the production orders, further victims that were also patients at Mackenzie Health, as well as the identity of the accused were revealed.

Investigators believed that there may also be additional victims not at Mackenzie Health as in December, 2015, the accused began employment as a personal support worker with Community and Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS)and worked at various other facilities. After his arrest on January 31, 2016, investigators released a picture of the accused and as a result two additional victims who were clients of CHATS and residents at a senior’s apartment complex, located in the area of Yonge Street and St. John’s Sideroad in Aurora, came forward.

On Tuesday, June 7, 2016, the accused turned himself into police and has been charged with five additional counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Assault. The investigation is ongoing.

Mr. ZADEH has been held in custody and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on June 7, 2016.
