Number Of Motorists Caught In Second Winter Storm

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The second winter storm of the season surprised a number of motorists. South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were kept busy dealing with a high number of motor vehicle collisions and stranded vehicles that were blocking, or partially blocking, the road and impeding the road crews’ efforts to clear the snow.

Between 3:30 pm on November 17, 2014 and 7:00 am on November 19, 2014, the South Bruce OPP received 45 reports involving a collision or stranded vehicle. A number of these incidents involved multiple vehicles, but there was just minor injuries reported at 1 of the scenes.

“I’m pleased that no one has been seriously hurt, at the same time, I find myself wondering why so many vehicles have been caught in the storm. I urge all residents of Southern Bruce County to frequently check road and weather reports this time of year before getting into a vehicle and monitor local radio stations for updates. I don’t want to see anyone else at risk travelling through a storm; including first responders that are put in harm’s way trying to locate stranded vehicles” – Acting Inspector Wayne Thompson, Detachment Commander, South Bruce OPP.
