NORTH HURON’S FIRE CHIEF TAKING LEAVE OF ABSENCE

At a meeting held last Thursday night in Belgrave attended by North Huron Council, senior staff, and the 44 volunteers of the Fire Department of North Huron (FDNH), Fire Chief John Black announced that he is taking a medical leave of absence.

North Huron Council will be appointing Deputy Chief Keith Hodgkinson as the Interim Fire Chief. He will assume day-to-day operations of the FDNH and manage current projects and priorities.

Deputy Chief David Sparling will assume more responsibility for the Emergency Services Training Centre (ESTC) in Blyth and continue to implement the expanded business plan and marketing strategy to build on the ESTC’s growth and success as a regional training centre.

“Over the past 3 years, John has worked tirelessly to establish the FDNH, secure service contracts with neighbouring municipalities, expand the ESTC, and build a legally compliant fire department. A team is in place to manage the FDNH and continue with the important work John has started,” said Reeve Neil Vincent. “Our thoughts and prayers are with John and his family, we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him rejoin us.”
