North Huron Woman In London Hospital After Head On Collision Near Listowel

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Thursday August 25, 2016, shortly before 6:30 a.m., the North Perth Fire Department, Perth County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a two vehicle collision on Perth Line 86 between Road 167 and Road 171.

Investigation revealed that a 2004 Audi 41Q sedan was driving eastbound in the eastbound lane on Perth Line 86, while a 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck approached westbound in the westbound lane. The driver of the Audi caused the vehicle to veer onto the south gravel shoulder. The driver overcompensated and steered back onto the paved portion of the road. The Audi crossed the eastbound lane and veered towards the westbound lane. This resulted in the pickup truck driver to steer towards the eastbound lane in an attempt to avoid a collision. Simultaneously the driver of the Audi steered the vehicle back onto the eastbound lane, causing it to collide head-on with the pickup truck.

The impact resulted in major injuries being sustained to the 25-year-old female driver of Audi, a resident of North Huron Twp. She was extricated from her vehicle and transported to a local hospital after which she was transferred by land ambulance to a London hospital. The 42-year-old male driver of the pickup truck, a Cambridge resident, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for his minimal injuries.

The road was closed for approximately three hours to allow for the safe investigation and cleanup of the debris.

Investigation into this collision is continuing.
