Norman Atkins – Drunk Driving – 2.5 Times Legal Limit

(Howick Twp, ON) On October 26, 2009 at approximately 8:00 pm, a Traffic Management Unit officer from Mount Forest stopped a pickup truck on County Road 87 near Howick. The driver was transporting two youths and while speaking to him, the officer detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The officer made a demand for the driver to provide a roadside sample of his breath and he complied. The result of the test was a fail. The man was arrested for drive with over 80 milligrams of alcohol and was taken to the Forest Detachment to meet with a qualified Intoxilizer Technician where he provided two more samples of his breath. The results of the two tests confirmed that the driver was over 2.5 times above the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol.

Norman Atkins (37) of Howick Township has been charged with one count of Drive With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and one count of Impaired Driving. He will answer to his charges on January 12, 2010 in the Wingham Court. His licence has been suspended for 90 days as per statute.
