(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid several criminal charges against two shoplifters stemming from a shoplifting occurrence on November 23, 2013. At approximately 9:00 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to Wal-Mart on Huron Road to assist a loss prevention officer that had two males in custody for shoplifting. Upon stopping the males outside of the store one of the males pushed the loss prevention officer to the ground. The males were eventually placed under arrest and restrained until police arrived on scene.
Officers took custody of the males and a search was completed. The males were found to be in possession of stolen property from the store and illegal drugs including suspected cocaine and oxycodone.
Further checks revealed one of the males was serving a probation sentence with conditions “to abstain from the possession of drugs and to keep the peace and be of good behaviorâ€Â.
As a result, Benjamin POYNTON, 19, from North Perth has been charged with Theft Under $5,000, Assault, Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine, Possession of a Controlled Substance – Oxycodone and three counts of Fail to Comply with a Probation Order. He remains in custody with a bail hearing scheduled for November 22, 2013 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
Also, Noah LINDSAY, 20, from Howick has been charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Oxycodone. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for January 7, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
