As of January 1, 2015 the province of Ontario passed legislation prohibiting smoking on sports fields and all playgrounds.
It is illegal to smoke on and 20 metres beyond the perimeter of municipally or provincially owned outdoor sport fields and sport surfaces. This may include but is not limited to soccer, baseball, skateboarding, football, basketball. Participants, spectators, parents and coaches must be 20 metres past the perimeter of the sport area and spectator area to smoke. Sport fields and surfaces used for any other purpose such as concerts, fairs or other public events will be required to comply.
In addition, it is illegal to smoke on all playgrounds and 20 metres beyond the playground perimeter. Playgrounds that are part of a residential location such as condominiums, apartment buildings and campgrounds are not included in the smoking ban.
Finally, Grey County prohibits smoking within 9 metres of any entrance or exit of municipally or county owned buildings.
