No Seatbelt – $240 Fine & Two Demerit Points

(WALKERTON, ON) – On March 15th, 2011 at 3:52 pm, a South Bruce OPP officer on patrol stopped a pick up truck on Durham Street East in Walkerton. The driver of the pick up wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. 20 year old Kyle SCHLORFF of Brant Township was charged with Fail to wear seatbelt. The South Bruce OPP wants to remind motorists that failing to wear a seatbelt is not only illegal, it’s unsafe. The bottom line is that no officer wants to go to a door and tell anyone that someone they love has died. It’s even harder for officers to deliver this news when they know the person may have lived if they had been wearing the seatbelt. The fine for not wearing a seatbelt is $240 and 2 demerit points are logged against your licence. “Police everywhere would be happy if you simply buckled up! Issuing tickets isn’t our goal, highway safety is! If you’re not buckled up, what’s holding you back?”
