No Lights Leads To Impaired Charge

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 44-year-old driver from Central Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams in connection to a traffic stop that took place this past weekend. At approximately 9:40 p.m. on April 16, 2016 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a GMC Sierra pickup travelling westbound on Cut Line Road. The officer noticed the pickup was pulling a trailer that didn’t have any taillights activated. The officer turned around and pulled the vehicle over on Whys Line. Upon approach to the motor vehicle the officer noted several issues with the attached trailer. There was no licence plate attached to the trailer, there was no red light on the rear of the trailer, there was an improper means of attachment, there were no mud guards and the trailer load was insecure.

Additionally, upon speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 44-year-old Gustav GOUD from Central Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Insecure Load, Draw Trailer – Improper Means of Attachment, Draw Trailer – No Plate and No Red Light at Rear of Trailer. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 16, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
