As you probably know, the Wescast Community Complex is a huge financial burden on North Huron taxpayers. The pool is closed on weekends in the summer, and many families can’t afford to use the facilities.
If this facility was given away, the new owner would have to start paying property taxes of approximately $72,000 a year. That is based on a two million dollar assesment. This could lower the tax burden by $500,000 to $750,000/year. If this property is given away, it should be done so with conditions, and to whomever will create the most jobs and draw people to town. A well know restaurant chain, or labour intensive business would be the preferred option.
Thumbs up if you think North Huron should give the complex away to create jobs and lower taxes.
Thumbs down if you think we should stick with the status quo.
