The vote to name the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s newest recruit – a sixteen month old male German Shepherd – will now go online. After a successful and ‘pawsitive’ school campaign, which collected more than 60 suggestions from local elementary schools, the latest addition to the Canine team is one step closer to having a name.
Students from across Waterloo Region submitted a wide variety of suggestions with an even broader range of explanations for their selections. Stemming from various heritages, languages and acronyms – the list of names was reviewed by the Canine Branch and narrowed down to three; Chase, Dougie and Titan. The community is invited to help select the final name by using Twitter hashtags to vote for their favourite. The hashtags are:

The hashtag with the highest usage by Thursday, May 7 at midnight, will reveal the winning name.
The school(s) whose name is successful will be invited to participate in a special presentation and demonstration by the Canine Branch during the Police Week Open House on May 9 at Headquarters. They will also receive a school visit by Chief Bryan Larkin, the dog – and his handler.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service would like to thank all schools and educators who participated and the students for their creativity. Examples of some of the other suggested names are; Radar, Flash, Rookie, Ranger, Jelly Bean, Drake, Pinto, Justice, Karpa and Zeus.
