Location: HOMER WATSON BLVD and BLOCK LINE RD, EASTERN INTERSECTION KITCHENER ON Canada

On the 10th of June 2015 at 5:14pm Regional Police were conducting road safety enforcement in the area of Homer Watson Blvd and Block Line in the City of Kitchener. During a vehicle stop and while the cruiser emergency lights were fully activated, an approaching silver minivan narrowly missed colliding with the rear of the police cruiser. The officer pulled over the minivan and charged a 45 year old Kitchener man with failing to move over for an emergency vehicle. The minivan driver faces a fine of $490 and 6 demerit points. If convicted, the court may make an order suspending the person’s driver’s licence for a period of not more than 2 years. Drivers are reminded that this law applies to all highways and roadways and is not reserved only for the 400 series highways. Upon approaching an emergency vehicle with its lights on that is stopped on the side of the road, the driver of a motor vehicle shall slow down, proceed with caution and in addition to slowing down, shall move into another lane if the movement can be made in safety. If a driver can not move over, nothing prevents the driver from stopping their vehicle and not passing the stopped emergency vehicle if stopping can be done in safety.
