National Day Of Remembrance & Action On Violence Against Women

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – This Wednesday, December 6, 2017 marks the 28th anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women killed at the l’Ecole Polytechnique de MontrĂ©al. This unprecedented act of gender-based violence forever left its mark on Canadian history. Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is about remembering victims, as well, it is a time for action.

The reality is violence still remains a daily struggle for many women and girls in our society. As such, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) remains committed to a coordinated & comprehensive effort with community partners such as the Huron Women’s Shelter, Victim Services Huron County, Huron-Perth Centre, Domestic Assault Review Team (DART) and Victim Witness Assistance Program (VWAP) to help support victims of domestic abuse and prevent future occurrences of domestic violence.
