On Thurday July 31, 2014 at approximately 1252pm, a motor vehicle collision occurred near the intersection of King Street North and University Avenue East in Waterloo. A 23 year old Waterloo woman driving a Kia attempted to exit a private driveway at a plaza and cross all lanes of King Street North to enter the plaza on the opposite side of the street. As the driver of the Kia started to cross the northbound lanes of King Street North, a red Suzuki motorcycle driven by a 34 year old Kitchener male began turning from University Avenue East onto King Street North. The motorcycle driver attempted to avoid a collision with the Kia, but in doing so lost control of his motorcycle and it landed on its side. No contact was made between the vehicles. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to Grand River Hospital and treated for a broken wrist. The driver of the Kia was charged with Fail to Yield from a private drive, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
