Music Teacher Facing Sexual Assault Charges – Police Fear More Victims

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section has charged a Brantford man following an investigation into allegations that he inappropriately touched two of his students.

The investigation began in May 2016 when the first complaint was received and that led to a second victim being identified. The incidents are believed to have occurred between 2012 and 2016 while the accused was in the course of his duties as a music teacher at a private studio in Ottawa.

On July 19, 2016 the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit (SACA) charged Jose HERNANDEZ, 70 years old, of Brantford, Ontario with one count of Sexual Assault. He was also charged with another count of Sexual Assault on August 16th. He is to appear in court on August 30th 2016.

SACA Investigators are continuing with the investigation and are concerned there could be more victims.

“The Ottawa Police will respect a victim’s wishes to pursue or not pursue the matter before the courts,” said Staff Sergeant Angela McDade, SACA. “The reporting of these incidents by victims to police is key for investigators to identify suspects and determine crime trends.”
