The Councils of the Town of Hanover and the Municipality of West Grey have directed their respective
Police Services Boards to form a joint steering committee which will investigate the possibility of
amalgamating the two Police Services of the municipalities. The two Councils approved this direction at
regular Council meetings which were each held on Monday, October 19,2015. The request for the
formation of this steering committee was made on behalf of the West Grey Police Services Board and
the Hanover Police Services Board by their respective Chairs.
The two Police Services Boards will act as equal partners in this investigation with the Steering
Committee being co-chaired by the two Chairmen of the Police Services Boards. The Chairmen are Kevin
Eccles of the West Grey Police Services Board and Warren Dickert of the Hanover Police Services Board.
The report that was presented to both Councils stated that An amalgamation of the two services would
create the potential for significant savings through items such as eliminating duplication and combining
infrastructure and management resources. lt could also provide a more effective Police Service by
creating the ability to offer additional or expanded programs and by increasing the capacity to provide
specialized services.””
