Several hours ago, the Nation Transition Council took control of Sirte, the last remaining strong-hold of Muammar Gaddafi. During this battle, Muammar Gaddafi was allegedly killed. Celebratory gunfire and horns of vehicles and ships echo through the entire country.
The NTC had stated that all fighters must either lay down their weapons, or join the police force. Plans for a democratic election are already being formulated, so the voice of their 99% will be heard and represented by their elected officials.
WFP hopes that those elected in the upcoming elections will represent their constituents, and that the thousands of their countrymen that paid the ultimate sacrifice for this Right, did not die in vain.
