Motorcycles Are Back On Area Roads

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) Motorcyclists are out enjoying the warm temperatures on area roadways. The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding all drivers that they must share the road and drive courteously to avoid a potentially dangerous situation.

Over 1/3 of motorcycle involved collisions are intersection related. You must check your mirrors and around your vehicle before you proceed. Be extra cautious when turning left in front of a motorcycle, it can be difficult to judge their speed.

Motorcycle turn signals can be hard to see, so watch for clues. Shoulder checking or leaning are indicators that the rider is going to change lanes or turn.

Speed or other aggressive tactics such as tailgating can be more dangerous for a motorcycle rider as they have less protection than a vehicle occupant. Give them space to change lanes, avoid cutting them off and always signal your turns; motorcycles are just as entitled to use the road as you are.

Aggressive or unsafe drivers need to be reported to police.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
