Motorcycle Safety

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind motorists that there will be an increase in motorcycles on the roadway today with the date being Friday the 13th.

Tips for Motorcyclists:
– Helmets save lives and are required in Ontario by law
– Be seen at intersections
– Communicate with other drivers
– Maintain proper lane position
– Keep a cushion of space around you
– Always ride at a speed that is appropriate for road and weather conditions

Tips for Motorists:
– Share the roadway with motorcycles
– Watch for clues as their signals can be hard to see
– Carefully assess an oncoming motorcycle’s speed
– Be courteous
– Check your mirrors frequently
– Maintain a safe following distance
