Motor Vehicle Collision – Driver and Owner Vehicle Owner Charged

Yesterday morning around 8:30 a.m. officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Longwoods Road in Camden Township.

A 24-year-old Thamesville man lost control of the truck, left the roadway and struck a tree. The man was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with non-life threatening injuries. Total damage was estimated at $9000. He was charged with careless driving and driving a motor vehicle with no permit.

Through investigation, the officer learned that the man’s father had given him permission to drive the truck knowing that the plates were expired and there was no insurance on the vehicle.

As a result, the 52-year-old Thamesville man was also charged with being the owner and permitting his motor vehicle to be driven on a highway with no insurance.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all vehicle owners that Ontario has compulsory automobile insurance which means that every vehicle registered in the province must be insured.
