Date: Tuesday, September 2, 2014 – 12:30pm
On the 2nd of September 2014 at approximately 12:30pm a tow truck pulled into the parking lot of the Tiffin Boat launch and parked the vehicle. The truck was parked facing the launch and was looking over the waterfront. It was at this time a patron attended to use the launch and the driver of the tow truck went to move in order for the patron to gain access. The truck suffered a malfunction which would not allow it to get in gear.
The driver familiar with the issue, exited the vehicle and crawled underneath the truck in order to rectify the problem. It was at this time the transmission of the truck engaged and began driving forward down the launch and into the lake. The vehicle now without driver ran over the male attempting to repair it and straight into the lake. A female passenger was quickly rescued by a pedestrian in a boat attending to use the ramp. Police and ambulance attended the scene.
The male tow truck driver was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the female passenger suffered no injuries and was treated at the scene.
Ministry of Environment and Labour have been contacted in regards to continuing the investigation.
After the incident, the truck floated off the shoreline and has since come to rest approximately 100 feet from the shoreline in about 10 feet of water.
Emergency services currently remain on scene.
