On June 11, 2014 at approximately 4:26pm, Saugeen Shores Police Service attended at a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Goderich and River Streets in Port Elgin.
The collision resulted in damages to two motor vehicles and a utility pole.
Assistance was received from Bruce County EMS, Saugeen Shores Fire Department, Hydro One and Westario Power.
Investigation revealed that a 2004 black Honda was northbound on Goderich Street making a left turn into a parking lot. The Honda was struck by a 2001 brown Volvo which was southbound on Goderich Street. The Volvo then struck and broke a utility pole on the west side of Goderich Street.
Both drivers were taken to hospital in Southampton with what is believed to be minor injuries.
The utility pole required replacement which resulted in the closure of Goderich Street until approximately 4:30am. This also resulted in power outages in Port Elgin until approximately 1:00am.
The driver of the Honda was charged with Turn Not in Safety, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
