Morris-Turnberry /North Huron Fire Prevention Initiative

The Municipality of Morris-Turnberry and the Township of North Huron have partnered in the creation of a full time Fire Prevention Officer position. Both municipalities have provided part time hours to Fire Prevention over the last five years. Under a new agreement, Morris-Turnberry will contract their Certified Fire Prevention Officer to North Huron. “The future of rural fire services requires the sharing of resources and expertise. This is a great step in that direction.” explained North Huron Fire Chief David Sparling.

Fire Prevention Officer James Marshall says this proactive approach is about prevention, education and consistency. “Our hope is to streamline public education messages, press releases, and inspections so that moving forward our area has consistent fire prevention between our communities. I’m looking forward to working closely with the North Huron Fire Department and getting out and meeting residents and business owners in North Huron” continued Marshall.

Morris-Turnberry Mayor Paul Gowing states: ‘The agreement between Morris-Turnberry and North Huron is a great example of how Municipal Partnership can help raise the level of service we can provide to our community’.

North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent states: ‘This program further promotes taking care of our people, our family and our neighbours’.
The Fire Prevention Office will be based out of the Emergency Services Training Centre in Blyth commencing September 2nd.
