Morris-Turnberry Mayor Gowing Speaks Out Regarding North Huron’s Demand For 30% Of Property Taxes

The Municipality of Morris-Turnberry was recently notified of a new
Cross Border policy passed by the Township of North Huron to charge
new development tax outside their boundary, an additional 30% of the
Municipal portion of the property taxes, for connection into the
North Huron water and sewer. This policy will negatively effect new
future development and improvements to current business.

During the consultation process, the North Huron engineer stated
that the current charges are fair and should be sufficient.

Morris-Turnberry properties currently pay:

150% of the North Huron base rate

150% of the North Huron rate per cubic metre of water

100% of  capital reserve charges,

100% of Capital Charges  or Infrastructure Recovery Fee

100% Connection
Charge

If this isn’t sufficient then North Huron should reassess the water
and sewer rates!

It is notable that the North Huron Infrastructure was built with 80%
Provincial funding.

Morris-Turnberry Council has no intention of making any payment to
North Huron for 30% of the Municipal portion of property taxes for
development adjacent to North Huron.

“This is not a step in a direction that will entice new development
to strengthen the area.”  stated Morris-Turnberry Mayor Paul
Gowing.

Strengthening ties and working  together will achieve greater
results.
