More Unlocked Vehicles Entered

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Thursday morning August 16, 2012, Perth County OPP officers in Mitchell were dispatched to two thefts from unlocked vehicles.

Investigation revealed that sometime between the evening of Wednesday August 15th and 8 a.m. Thursday August 16th, a vehicle parked on Wellington St. near Kent St. and a vehicle on Toronto St. between St. David and St. Andrew St. were entered. Both vehicles were parked in residential driveways and were left unlocked. One of the vehicles is missing a GPS unit as well as the vehicle keys. From the other vehicle a carrying case containing a health card, drivers licence, social insurance card and credit cards was removed.

The public is urged to lock their vehicles and remove valuables. Leaving keys, wallets and personal identification in unlocked vehicles sets the stage for identity theft or entry into your locked homes.

(Social Insurance Numbers are a vital piece of information a crook can utilize to steal your identity. Why carry it in your wallet, or leave it in your unlocked vehicle? Instead, lock it up at home or store it in a safety deposit box).

“Think about it, when is the last time you used your social insurance card?”

Anyone who has any information about these thefts is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
