Minor Injuries As Vehicle Strikes Building

Occupants of a west end apartment escaped with only minor injuries after a motor vehicle came through the wall of their ground floor unit.
On Monday 26 August, 2013 at approximately 12:20pm a 2010 BMW SUV, operated by a 41 year old Guelph female, was attempting to turn around in the driveway of an apartment building on the southeast corner of Guelph Street and Willow Road. As the motor vehicle entered the driveway, it accelerated out of control and struck the west side of the building. The vehicle broke through the ground floor window scattering concrete blocks and framing throughout the bedroom. The male and female resident of that apartment were asleep in that room and were showered by debris. Both sustained minor lacerations and abrasions but miraculously did not require hospitalization. The driver of the BMW complained of discomfort to her right arm. Her 13 year old male passenger did not sustain any injury. A City of Guelph building inspector was called to the scene and determined that the structural integrity of the building had not been compromised by the impact. The involved apartment sustained extensive damage and is uninhabitable. The driver of the BMW has been charged with Careless Driving and will appear in Provincial Offences Court in October.
