(PERTH SOUTH, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers along with members from the Perth County Crime Unit are seeking information from the public in relation to a recent break, enter & mischief occurrence that took place this past weekend.
Sometime overnight between 6:00 p.m. on May 30, 2015 and 8:00 a.m. on May 31, 2015 those responsible entered onto the property of commercial mink farm located just east of St. Marys on Perth Line 9. Once on the property those responsible cut out a section of the chain link perimeter fence and entered into the barn area. Once inside they opened up approximately 1600 female mink cages allowing the animals to escape the property.
Employees have since been able to locate nearly 1000 of the animals however approximately 600 mink are still missing. In addition, the nursing babies that remained in the cages are not expected to survive.
The replacement costs to the business could exceed $200, 000.
