Many Winghamites are expecting a property tax rebate cheque from Wingham Town Hall, or an explanation of where the savings from the mild winter have gone. As taxpayers we are forced to prepay for snow removal on roads and sidewalks via our extremely high property taxes. Since council has charged for a service they didn’t deliver, they should be morally and ethically bound to return those funds to the People they took them from.
Most streets running north and south in Wingham don’t have either sidewalk cleared, while streets going east and west typically have one of the sidewalks cleared. Remember Wingham is only one square mile. If rebate checks are going to be mailed out, those living on streets with completely blocked sidewalks may get a much bigger payout than those living on a street that has a sidewalk cleared.
To find where the savings from the mild winter have gone, or to find out how much your rebate check would be if they returned these savings directly to the People, please contact North Huron Councilor trevor seip at 519-357-7759, 214 Frances Street, or [email protected] 24/7. NOTE: Dialing *67 first blocks your outgoing caller id.
The next council meeting is 7pm Monday 18Jan2016 at Wingham Town Hall.
