(Howick, ON) On December 18, 2009 at approximately 10:00 pm, Huron OPP officers were set up for a RIDE checkpoint in the Village of Wroxeter. A Dodge pickup truck entered the area and an officer spoke with the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle about his headlights that were not functioning. The officer detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. Further investigation led the officer to believe that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The male was arrested and taken to the Huron Detachment where he met with a qualified Intoxilizer Technician to provide two samples of his breath. Both tests were completed and the results confirmed that the man had nearly two times the legal limit of alcohol in his system at the time of driving.
Based on the fact that the man was on a release for previous charges, he was held in police custody pending a bail hearing on December 21, 2009 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. Michael THOMPSON (43) of the Wroxeter area man is facing one count of Impaired Driving, one count of Drive With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Breach of Undertaking.
