On Wednesday, July 16, 2013 at 6:00 p.m., the London Police Service responded to a collision on Oxford Street just east of Adelaide Street.
It was reported that the vehicle was travelling westbound on Oxford Street Street, when it crossed the eastbound lanes and struck a wooden hydro pole on the south side of the road. The bottom portion of the pole was severed and the top portion remained suspended in the air by the attached overhead wires. There were no other vehicles involved. The driver was alone in the vehicle and received minor injuries from the collision.
Inside the car was a licence plate that was reported stolen in June 2012.
As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Michael Gordon of London was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
Impaired operation of a motor vehicle (by drug), contrary to section 253(1)(a);
Possession of property not exceeding $5000 obtained by crime, contrary to section 354(1);
and other provincial offences under the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The London Police are reminding the public of the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. If you are going to drive, remain sober or find an alternative means of transportation. If you observe a driver suspected to be impaired, dial 911 immediately.
